I’m going to give a little back-story about myself, but you can click here to jump straight down to the p90x review.
About a year ago I was preparing to change my life. I was going to switch majors and go to a new school. Although I was moving back to my hometown, it was kind of like a fresh start because I hadn’t lived there for 2 years. On top of it all, I was overweight (the heaviest I have ever been).
But, I didn’t let this faze me. Instead, I put it into a positive perspective and looked at it as an opportunity to reinvent myself.
I was tired of just wanting and waiting for things “some day.” I was ready to take some action. I needed some kind of initiation. Before I could prove myself to the world, I needed to prove myself to myself…
I remember it was something the trainer said though that really caught my attention. He said, “Get out of your head about it.”
If you want to know a little bit more about my story, read about my life change.

If you are thinking about getting p90x, you should know a little about what you are dealing with. When I was starting p90x, I knew it was going to be hard. It was okay though, because I was tired of trying easy/cheap methods of getting in shape. But, no one really warned me of what I was in for…

The way P90X works is that every day you do a different workout, alternating between cardio-based workouts and strength-training workouts (and you have an optional day off). After a month, you switch up the strength-based workouts, so that you don’t plateau and keep developing muscle.
This technique is called muscle confusion.
Usually, when you keep working out with the same routine week after week, eventually you reach a point where you just don’t seem to be making any progress anymore and there are no noticeable changes: that is the plateau.
By changing up the workouts, your body is doing something completely new and will react as if it is starting from day 1, so you are constantly challenging your body.
P90x includes 12 workout videos that focus on different aspects of the body. I know some of you are curious about the details of each video, so I will briefly review and sort of give you a sneak peek of each video here:
Chest & Back
Focuses on entire chest and back. Some things you will do are push-ups, declines, and military push-ups. For back you will do mainly different types of pull-ups.
Plyometrics
Involving a lot cardio, this one is meant to make you lose fat, but also strengthen legs, as a lot of the moves are things you might do in sports, like jumping side to side, or explosive squats. If you have ever played on a sports team you will be familiar with some of the exercises, and if you haven’t, it will feel like you are!
Kenpo X
This is my favorite of all the cardio workouts. Kenpo is a type of martial arts that involves a lot of punching and kicking. You are constantly moving in this workout. You will lose a lot of fat with this one because you will have so much fun doing it.
See P90x Exercises to read about all 12 workouts.
First, I must confess- I could not pass the “fitness test”…
